OVERVIEW

Zakat Al-Fitr - $10 Per Person

Zakat Al-Fitr (fitrana) is an obligation on every adult Muslim who possesses food in excess of their needs.

It can be paid during Ramadan, however must be done so before Eid Al-Fitr prayers at the latest, so that it can be provided to those in need on time, and those less fortunate are able to enjoy the day of Eid as well!

The responsibility fall upon adults and the head of the household, and the minimum amount due is the equivalent of 2kg of wheat flour, rice or other staple food-items, per member of the household, including dependants.  This amounts to an estimated $10 per person.

The individuals that receive Zakat in general are the poor and destitute. HCI acts on your behalf, and ensures that they have the support they need and food to enjoy on the blessed day of Eid.

Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar said that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered the people to pay Zakat al Fitr before going to the Eid prayer. (Hadith, Bukhari)
